Although Independence Day 2013 is now over, it’s  a long holiday weekend.  So let’s take time to reflect on that most American of holidays and the events of this past week.  A lot happened….

Morsi’s Gone –  Egypt:  Now What?  “Secularists and Coptic Christians are celebrating, and insisting to a Western press that has been as indefatigably pro-Muslim Brotherhood as Barack Obama that this is not a military coup, but a revolution, a true people’s revolution as the “Arab Spring” that toppled Mubarak was supposed to be.”

OK – how about something uplifting for a change?  As Senator Ted Cruz wrote on his Facebook page:

It was 26 years ago today that Ronald Reagan stood in front of the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin and demanded that the Soviet Union “tear down this wall.” Two years later, the wall came down — a major victory for human freedom not only in Germany, but across the world.

Because of the dedication of President Reagan, Prime Minister Thatcher, and Pope John Paul II to confronting the evils of communism and defeating it, millions across the globe live in greater freedom, peace, and prosperity. Today’s momentous anniversary should inspire us all to continue their legacy of advancing liberty every single day.

P.S.. It’s also George Herbert Walker Bush’s 89th birthday.  Happy birthday, Mr. President!
