HDR 99(1): Franks, Beans & The New Reality

ALOHA, ALL!! “I’m exhausted of defending you,” were the words 0bama heard at a town hall meeting the other day.  Did you catch his initial reaction?  He was actually laughing, but Velma Hart was serious.  This was truly the smack-in-the-face, reality bites, moment for 0bama that has been a long time coming.  And he didn’t even recognize it. Ms. Hart talked about how she thought the “franks & beans” era of her life was over, yet she now sees it knocking on her door once again – the new reality as a result of 0bama’s policies and failed plans. So while Ms. Hart continued to express her “deep disappointment” with 0bama, you could see it dawning on him;  a penny for your thoughts, Barry.  Frankly, that’s about all they’re worth.  Dick Morris wrote a brilliant analysis of how Velma Hart has now become the new voice of our American misery.  And to think that it took an African American woman who supported 0bama to deliver such a knock-out punch.  Of course, the arugula and lobster are still plentiful at the White House.  Here’s Morris’ article from The Hill:

The MSNBC cameras unwittingly — and probably unwillingly — captured a Joe the Plumber moment during Monday’s town hall meeting called by President Obama to discuss the economy. Expressing the frustration of tens of millions of Americans on a day during which the economists called the recession over, Velma Hart, a self-described CFO, wife, mother and veteran, expressed her “deep disappointment” with Obama’s economic record — to his face.“I’ve been told that I voted for a man who said he’s going to change things in a meaningful way for the middle class. I’m one of those people, and I’m waiting, sir. … I’m waiting, but I don’t feel it yet.”

Calling herself “exhausted” by the rigors of the task of defending Obama, she lamented that she and her husband had thought the “franks and beans” era of their lives had drawn to a close but said she hears it “knocking” at the door. She finished with a heart-rending question to Obama, asking if anxiety is to be her “new reality.”

Wow.

This cry of distress coming from an African-American supporter of Obama’s will echo in each of our hearts as the fall elections approach. When we were in the midst of a recession, even the Great Recession, we came to expect high unemployment, much like those in the tropics expect a storm during the rainy season. But we are like those who are experiencing daily rain in the dry season now that the recession is over and unemployment hovers around 10 percent. Is this, indeed, to be our “new reality”?

"Yeah, I Inhaled Then And I Suck Now"

Dear Bill. I wrote a letter to O’Reilly Monday:  “Bill – I find it ironic that the left is apoplectic over Christine O’Donnell saying that she dabbled in witchcraft as a youth, yet they don’t seem to care that a young Barack Obama sold and smoked pot with his mentor, Frank Marshall Davis. Isn’t one activity illegal while the other is not? Or are they still burning witches in Salem?”  Of course, I never expected O’Reilly to read it on the air and he didn’t. But it’s interesting because it looks like others are thinking the same thing I am:  Seriously, Is Witchcraft The Best You Got? Meanwhile, O’Donnell’s opponent, Chris Coons, claims 0bama made the right choice with the healthcare monstrosity, failed stimulus bill, and more.  Wow!  I wonder what he’s been smoking????  Then again, Harry Reid does claim Coons is “his pet.”  How lovely for him!

On The Lighter Side…

A “paraprosdokian” is a figure of speech in which the latter part of a sentence or phrase is surprising or unexpected in a way that causes the reader or listener to reframe or reinterpret the first part. It is frequently used for humorous or dramatic effect:

  • Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.
  • I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my grandfather. Not screaming and yelling like the passengers in his car.
  • The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But it’s still on the list.
  • Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.
  • If I agreed with you, we’d both be wrong.
  • We never really grow up; we only learn how to act in public.
  • War does not determine who is right — only who is left.
  • Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit; Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.
  • The early bird might get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.
  • Evening news is where they begin with “Good evening,” and then proceed to tell you why it isn’t.
  • To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism. To steal from many is research.
  • A bus station is where a bus stops. A train station is where a train stops. My desk is a work station.
