Hump Day Report: Fly It Proudly!
ALOHA, ALL!! Today, June 14, is Flag Day. It’s a day to honor the Stars and Stripes and what it represents. Officially designated as an annual national day by Harry Truman in 1949, Interesting to note that the idea originated with a school teacher from Wisconsin much earlier: Flag Day
Salute the flag today and hang it for all to see. It means freedom throughout the world.
Madison Rising: Star Spangled Banner
Final Thoughts: “We take the stars from heaven, the red from our mother country, separating it by white stripes, thus showing that we have separated from her, and the white stripes shall go down to posterity, representing our liberty.” ~George Washington, attributed
“I swing before your eyes as a bright gleam of color, a symbol of yourself, the pictured suggestion of that big thing which makes this nation. My stars and my stripes are your dream and your labors. They are bright with cheer, brilliant with courage, firm with faith, because you have made them so out of your heart. For you are the makers of the flag and it is well that you glory in the making.” ~Franklin Knight Lane
GOD BLESS AMERICA – PASS THIS ON – REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER!!
“The flag that waves above us all is mainly red and blue. But it would not have star or half of its stripes, if not for the White part, too.”–from “Martin Mull’s History of White People in America” ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxa0iVgGmtU&feature=player_detailpage#t=62s )
Today is also the 237th birthday of the United States Army.
I must confess I didn’t hang a flag today. I just wore in on the right shoulder of my uniform.
Just as good….if not beter!!
