HDR 187: Warren Buffett – Obama’s Old/New BFF

ALOHA, ALL!!  It turns out that Barry’s vacation hasn’t been all golf, fun in the sun, and spending time with Michelle and the kids.  He’s actually been working!  Yes, you read that right….he’s been working on getting more money for his re-election campaign (and you thought I meant working on a jobs plan or something silly like that – how pedestrian of you!)  Barry has met with several high profile, big money types while at “The Vineyard” including people like his Harvard law professor Charles Ogletree and Brian Roberts, the CEO of Comcast:  Big bucks for Obama from Comcast, other ‘fat cats’ – Common American Journal  There there’s Warren Buffett, the multi-billionaire who just gave Bank of America a bunch of money.  Barry called him and they had a little phone chat, probably about a jobs plan.  NOT!  I can’t quite figure Buffett out…..he supported Barry in 2008, criticized his economic policy not long ago, told everyone that rich people needed to pay more taxes, and now seems to be fully on board with having Barry in the White House for another four years.  I guess when you’re an eccentric billionaire you can act like a fool no matter how badly it impacts the “little people.” And if you want to attend Buffett’s economic forum (aka Barry fundraiser) in NY in September, be ready to shell out at least $10,000:  Buffett’s Obama pigout – NYPOST.com  BTW, I’m still waiting for Warren to send in his voluntary check for those extra taxes.  After all, noblesse oblige, n’est pas, Warren?  I’d rather listen to this Buffett instead:

Michelle Obama accused of spending $10m in public money on vacations | Mail Online  “Branding her ‘disgusting’ and ‘a vacation junkie’, they say the 47-year-old mother-of-two has been indulging in five-star hotels, where she splashes out on expensive massages and alcohol.”

Great news: Obama hit the golfing trifecta on vacation « Hot Air  “It took President Obama nearly a week, but he’s played the trifecta: golf courses in the three main Martha’s Vineyard hubs of Edgartown, Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven.”  He’s also met with numerous big-money donors while on vacay:  “Obama has already attended one hundred and twenty-seven fundraisers this year, which USA Today noted last week far outpaced the previous two Presidents.”

Wakeup Call: Indiana college bans National Anthem … too violent | Off the Bench  “Goshen College (Ind.) is a Mennonite institution, and as such, committed to nonviolence. Its sports mascot, in fact, is the least threatening item found in nature — the leaf.”

Bernanke Doesn’t Rule Out More Stimulus | TheBlaze.com  “Chairman Ben Bernanke is proposing no new steps by the Federal Reserve to boost the economy while hinting that Congress may need to act to stimulate hiring and growth.  Bernanke said Friday that while record-low interest rates will promote growth over time, the weak economy requires further help in the short run.”

Beetlemania: Feds Give 4 States $5.8 Million to Protect Insect Habitat | CNSnews.com  “The U.S. Department of Interior announced this week that it is giving four states $5,802,180 in grants for projects that are designed in whole or in part to protect various types of threatened or endangered beetles.”

NY Times Finally Curious About POTUS Candidates Religion…Well, the Republican Ones At Least | All American Blogger  “…..pays lip service to Obama’s affiliation with radical Marxist pastor Jeremiah Wright and his twenty year attendance to the church that preaches black liberation theology, “which calls for social activism, class struggle, and even violent revolution aimed at overturning the “capitalist oppressors of the poor” and installing, in its place, a socialist utopia that will finally enfranchise the poor and downtrodden.”

This Breaking News From Alert HDR Readers Charlie, Scott & Bob:

President Obama has just confirmed that the DC earthquake occurred on a rare and obscure fault-line, apparently known as “Bush’s Fault”. Obama also announced that the Secret Service and Maxine Waters continues an investigation of the quake’s suspicious ties to the Tea Party. Conservatives however have proven that it was caused by the founding fathers rolling over in their graves.

But Wait!  There’s More From Alert Reader Steve:

The Weather Channel says the earthquake in Virginia was caused by an unknown fault-line running under Washington, D.C., and through Virginia.  It is now being called “Obama’s Fault”. Some think it was America’s founding fathers rolling over in their graves!  Obama will say it’s really Bush’s fault (go figure!?)…and in Breaking News:  Seismologists have confirmed that it WAS an earthquake and NOT the $14.6 trillion check bouncing on the East Coast.

And the hurricane jokes can’t be far behind.  But we hope everyone in Irene’s path stays safe and takes precautions!

Final Thought:  “I must study politics and war that my sons may have liberty to study mathematics and philosophy. My sons ought to study mathematics and philosophy, geography, natural history and naval architecture, navigation, commerce and agriculture, in order to give their children a right to study painting, poetry, music, architecture, statuary, tapestry, and porcelain.” –John Adams, letter to Abigail Adams, 1780

I’m gonna break a little populist here and say I’m laughing about Buffett’s statement. After the Great Black Hope was elected in 2008, I laughed about the impact it would have on people’s portfolios. The Alex P. Keaton types, who spent all their American freedom trying to make lots of money, and hardly any to secure the country as we’ve known it and stand for social values, would be seeing how their supposedly “Obama-proof” investments just weren’t so. Now we see one of their semi-gurus yet again calling for such policies.

As someone whose economic philosophy is, “Just tell me how much fuel and ammo is gonna cost, and I’m done with economic matters,” I’m laughing all the more.

Irene? The girl’s got to be Irish… lots of bluster! Too bad she’s taking so long to get to the Vineyard…
