Think what you will about Charles DeGalle–politically, I don’t agree with most of his legacy. But, whatever decisions he made, I don’t doubt that he did what he honestly thought was best for France at the time. I recently read an interesting book: “The Apprentice” by Jacques Pepin. Pepin, in his younger days was the personal chef for de Gaulle. A paragraph in the book, p124, made me compare that time with our current times.“The general also was extremely honest–to the point of punctiliousness–in dealing with the budget allocated to the kitchen. Even though he was not wealthy, he felt that the Sunday meal was his own responsibility. For de Gaulle, it was a question of ethics.”I couldn’t help but think of the stark contrast between that, and Obama’s multi million dollar vacations and meals for himself, his wife, their daughters, the daughters’ friends, the family dog, an entourage of 300, etc, etc. More like Louis XVI, than president of the US.
